Research Proposal
For your summative assignment, you will apply everything you learned in this course to create an eight- to ten-page (not including title and reference pages) research proposal with proper APA citations and formatting. You will not be required to implement the research. The purpose is to set up an outline for you to further develop and/or implement at some later point in time. In doing this activity, you will also experience firsthand what your students/patrons have to do when designing a research study. As you progress through this narrative outline, think about how you can support your students/patrons in the process. You must include at least one primary source of reference, as well as one secondary source and one tertiary source. You must also include data from at least five articles, with three of the five being scholarly or peer-reviewed articles.
Your proposal must have the following sections. Include the following underlined headings in your paper:
1. Statement of the Problem (One to three paragraphs): State your rationale/purpose. Why do you want to study this?
What do you perceive to be an issue or problem? How do you know it’s a problem? Describe the context.
2. Research Question (One paragraph): Identify a question informed by the statement of the problem; this question
must warrant further research or study. You also want to consider questions and/or research that contribute to the field. Even though this was developed in Week Four, you may need to change it as you develop this outline. Research questions tend to evolve as you learn more about the issue.
3. Literature Review (Four to five pages): Review and summarize the current literature on your topic. Read at least five articles; three of the five articles must be three scholarly or peer-reviewed articles about the topic. You may include the sources you listed for your written assignment in Week Four. You have to include at least one
primary, one secondary, and one tertiary source. You might want to include subheadings as you categorize the
findings from the other studies.
4. Participants (One paragraph): Describe your participants. Who do you plan on studying? How many people? Are
you studying a specific group? State age group, gender, profession, etc. Be specific about your data sample. (You
can also study content instead of people or human subjects.)
5. Data Collection Method(s) (One to three paragraphs): Describe your data collection method(s). Which methods
do you plan on using? For example, do you plan on conducting interviews? Focus groups? Surveys? How do you
plan on conducting your study? Describe the procedures.
6. Ethical considerations (One to two paragraphs): Describe any ethical considerations. What do you need to think
about to conduct an ethical study? What are your limitations?
7. Bibliography (One page): Include a page of citations in APA format.
